Miami Metropolitan Housing Authority and Community Action Council
The Housing Choice Voucher Program (also known as Section 8) helps low-income families, elderly persons, veterans and disabled individuals afford housing in the private market. Program participants can choose any eligible housing unit, including single-family homes, townhouses, and apartments, with rent partially covered by a subsidy paid directly to the landlord. There are around 2,000 Local Public Housing Agencies (PHAs) across the country that administer the HCV program with funding from HUD. Miami Metropolitan Housing Authority assists approximately 991 current voucher participants.
The landlord liaison facilitates communication and collaboration between landlords and tenants on the HCV program. She provides resources, education, and support to help both landlords and tenants understand their rights and responsibilities. She maintains the unit availability list and answers questions and concerns from private landlords, both existing on the program and those who will be participants in the future.

In the Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) program, inspections are crucial to ensure properties meet minimum safety and housing quality standards. These inspections are conducted by MMHA and can be initial, periodic (usually annually or biennially), or special in response to complaints or emergencies. They verify that a home is decent, safe, and sanitary.
