Miami County Community Action Council was incorporated in 1966 as part of President Lyndon B. Johnson’s War on Poverty, and over the years has evolved to provide economic stability programs, emergency assistance, and empowerment initiatives for low-income residents. Miami Metropolitan Housing Authority was established in 1978 to provide affordable housing solutions in Miami County. Operating under HUD guidelines, MMHA offers assistance through the Housing Choice Voucher Program (formerly known as Section 8) and has evolved over the years to manage multiple Public Housing units. They’ve operated out of the Community Services Building since 1977, which itself has a rich history within the county. Both organizations have played a critical role in supporting Miami County residents, adapting to economic challenges, policy changes, and community needs over the decades.
